RLE Staff

    The Residence Life & Education Team is comprised of caring, talented, and energetic student and professional staff members who are committed to developing and supporting the population of nearly 2,300 students living in residence.


Staff Descriptions


    Community Leaders (CL)

    Community Leaders are student-staff members who act as the primary resource for students living in residence. CLs complete an extensive training program including sessions in peer helping, conflict mediation and resolution, crisis intervention, event planning, and more. CLs also work to explain, address, and report the Community Standards.

    Community Leaders organize and host programs and events throughout the year. The programs run by our CLs are a great way to connect with other students in your area, reduce your stress and learn something new! To learn more about the Community Leaders in your neighbourhood, click here.


    Residence Program Leaders (RPL)

    Residence Program Leaders are student-staff who work with the Coordinator, Student Development and Programming to support the overall Residence Life and Education program through planning both neighbourhood and residence-wide programs and events. For example, our open mics, dances, and athletic events are a great way to reduce stress and connect with other students!     Senior Community Leaders (SCL)

    Senior Community Leaders are student-staff members who work to support the overall Residence Life and Education program through mentoring and coaching the CL team in all aspects of its role in collaboration with the professional staff. SCLs work to model and uphold the Community Standards as well as work to develop programs and educational opportunities for residents.     Residence Life Coordinators (RLC)

    Residence Life Coordinators are professional staff members who work to support the overall Residence Life and Education Program. The four RLCs are responsible for developing a positive and respectful living environment that promotes academic success, leadership and civic engagement, personal growth, and inclusion amongst all residents. The RLCs supervise Community Leaders and Senior Community Leaders as well as follow up on residence incidents and community issues. They also work on a variety of special projects designed to enhance the residence life experience.


    Coordinator, Residence Education (CRE)

    The Coordinator, Residence Education, is responsible for the development and delivery of key residence initiatives which enhance the educational experience for students living in residence. These include working to enhance and transform current themed and interested-based communities in residence, to develop and coordinate Living-Learning Communities, the development of an Academic Resources Centre in residence, and the introduction of Community Service Learning opportunities to provide transformational experiences for students living in residence.


    Coordinator, Student Development & Programming (CSDP)

    The Coordinator, Student Development and Programming (CSDP) is a professional staff member responsible for the development, coordination, and implementation of a diverse range of programs, projects, and activities designed to assist residence students in their academic, personal, and interpersonal growth throughout the year. The CSDP is responsible for coordinating the residence-wide programs; training and advising professional staff in programming; and the direct supervisor of the Residence Program Leaders.


    Coordinator, Community Development and Student Leadership (CCDSL)

    The Coordinator, Community Development and Student Leadership (CCDSL) is responsible for the consistent, fair, and educational student conduct system within the residence community in addition to providing consultation and resources to the RLC team. This position is also responsible for the coordination and delivery of the annual Fall Training Program as well as ongoing paraprofessional development opportunities for student staff. Lastly, the CCDSL coordinates the assessment and evaluation of our RLE program.


    Residence Life & Education Receptionist

    The RLE Receptionist monitors our primary email account and phone line, greets students and staff as they enter the office, and connects with other Residence Services departments to best assist the RLE team. If you have RLE related questions or need to book an appointment, please contact our receptionist.


    Manager, Residence Life & Education

    The Manager, Residence Life and Education is responsible for the strategic development, implementation, management, and assessment of the Residence Life and Education program. The manager supervises the professional Residence Life and Education staff team, oversees the residence education curriculum, and manages the administration of a fair and educational residence judicial system. The manager ensures the development and maintenance of a Residence Life and Education program that supports healthy, safe, and academically focused residence communities.

    Daniel Belkin – Cluster North

    3rd year Biopsych student. Interests include Improv, running, reading and theatre. I love movies.


    Divyanshu (Candy) Samant – Cluster North

    Hey, I am Divyanshu, but I generally go with Candy – that’s my nickname. This is my second year as RPL. I am currently a third year Electrical Engineering student. I am an International student from India, and love being here in Canada amidst people from different cultures and values. I am taking 5 Electrical courses this summer. I am really excited to meet you guys, have a great summer!


    Celine Chaudhary – Cluster South

    I’m currently doing my degree as a combined bio and psych and I’ll be going into my third year this September! I was born and raised in Calgary and I spent my summer in Victoria, taking a class and enjoying the sunshine! I love to read, play video games, and volunteer whenever I can with the “Society for treatment of Autism” back in Calgary, which is very near and dear to me. I cannot wait to meet everyone and I’m looking forward to an amazing summer with you all!! Cheers!


    Anique LeRoux – Cluster South

    Hey everyone! My name’s Aniqué LeRoux and I will be a tower RPL for 2013-14. I love running and swimming. And I am majoring in Biology. This year is going to be great; I can’t wait to meet everyone.


    Jessica Jackson – Ring Road (RG) Academic Engagement Community

    Hey, my name is Jessica. I am originally from England but currently live in Vancouver. I am now in my second year of university majoring in Geology. I love horse riding, skiing and singing. I look forward to meeting all of my new residents and helping you all move in. Hope you all had a great summer.


    Andrea Nychay – Ring Road (RG) Academic Engagement Community

    Hey everyone! I’m a psychology major going in to my 4th year. I’m from Seattle and love to spend my summers sailing between Seattle and Victoria on the Victoria Clipper, where I work! I’m super excited to be your RPL and welcome to UVic!


    Amanda Montanari – South Tower (STW) Sustainability Community

    Hi! My name is Amanda and I am a third-year student at UVic with an English Major and a French Minor. When I’m not studying or doing homework, I love watching tv shows and hanging out with friends. My fave tv shows include ‘Once Upon a Time, Game of Thrones, The Vampire Diaries and Doctor Who’. My absolute favourite place to dine in Victoria is Famoso Neapolitan Pizzeria because their food is amazing! I cannot wait to meet you all throughout the year and hope everyone has a wonderful experience at UVic just like I did!


    Miffy Edge – South Tower (STW) Sustainability Community

    I am Miffy and I’m super stoked to be a RPL in the Sustainability community! I am a second year geography and sociology student. I grew up in Wellington, New Zealand. I like hiking, kayaking and UVic.


    Ricky Lee Watts – Tower (TW) Health & Wellness Community

    Hey everyone! My name is Ricky Watts. I’m a 2nd year science student majoring in Dietetics. I love to spend time outdoors, finding potential and trying new experiences! Life is full of opportunity and I will be travelling this summer to Costa Rica. I encourage you all to keep your immediate as well as future goals in mind and be excited for all the wonder offered here at UVic!     Felix Lam – Tower (TW) Health & Wellness Community

    Hello! I am a 5th year student currently in the Bachelor of Education program. It will be my second year on the Residence Life Staff Team; in my first year I was a Community Leader in Haig Brown. In my free time I like to play soccer, read, and explore new music. Currently, I’ve been listening to a lot of Danny Brown. I look forward to getting to know all of you.


    Elly Graff – Carroll (CA) Leadership & Civic Engagement Community

    Hello, I’m Elly! I’m in my second year and majoring in something… not sure yet! I’m a semi-professional calf wrangler on my family farm in Ferintosh, Alberta and pretty much a professional cat person. Interpret as a cat lady. I spend my summers working at camps for kids with developmental disabilities. Welcome to UVic!


    Sidney Scout – Carroll (CA) Leadership & Civic Engagement Community

    Hello! My name is Sydney Scout. I’m currently studying political science, and hope to eventually become a college professor. I was born and raised Anchorage, Alaska. I really love the outdoors, reading, spicy food, running, travelling, and of course, making fun programs in residence!

    Hello everyone! My name is Mike Wilson and I am a 4th year Commerce student. In my free time, I DJ and enjoy venture capitalism & entrepreneurship. I currently own an events firm ‘Beat Phrequency’, and a tutor agency ‘Lunar Tutors’. I am from Coquitlam, BC and will be working as a legal assistant at a law firm in Vancouver this summer.     Abdullahi Idle – Cluster North

    Hi. My name is Abdullahi, born in Somalia and grew up in Kenya. I am currently in my second, majoring in Health Information Science. In my spare time I enjoy spending time with friends. I am very excited to be a CL and looking forward to meeting new people and to have an awesome year with everyone.


    Gordon Thorpe – Cluster North

    Hey, I’m Gordon and I’m currently in my fourth year of my degree in Chemistry and Earth & Ocean Science. I moved to Victoria for my second year and lived off campus, followed by a year in residence as a CL and now I’m back for another year! I’m big into snowboarding; some may say it’s ‘my passion”, but as there isn’t exactly much snow in Victoria, I save it for when I’m back home in Kamloops. I look forward to being your CL in the upcoming year!


    Lesley Beddie – Cluster North

    Hello, my name is Lesley Beddie and I am entering my third year in UVic. I am from the cold snowy north of Terrace, BC so I love the snow and appreciate Victoria’s warmer weather. I love volleyball, food and puddle jumping when it rains. Hope to see you around!


    Alyssa Savage – Cluster North

    Alyssa Savage here, your soon to be CL. Here at the one and only UVic campus, I am studying as a business pre-admit second year student. Straight from the streets of Vic itself, I’m eager to aquaint you with the university, along with showing off the beautiful west coast.     Madlen Anderson – Cluster North

    Hi! My name is Madlen Anderson and I’m heading into my second year at UVic. I’m currently enrolled in the faculty of humanities, where I’m leaning towards a degree in French. I hope you all have a great summer and I’m excited to meet everyone in September. À bientôt!


    Brittany (Brit) Walton – Cluster North

    Hey! My name is Brit. I am a third year Psychology student and a second year Community Leader. This summer, I’m spending half of it here at UVic taking some summer courses and the other half will be spent back home in Nanaimo working at a children’s summer camp. I’m looking forward to another great year at UVic and in residence!


    Kaayla Whachell – Cluster South

    Hi, I’m Kaayla and I’m entering my 2nd year at UVic. I hope to one day work in the film industry. I love to hike and cook. I am looking forward to spending this year with everyone at UVic residence!


    Hannah Johnson – Cluster South

    I’m a first-time CL but in the final year of my undergrad here at UVic, from which I will be graduating with a major in Medieval Studies and a minor in Psych. I hail from Portland, Oregon, am an avid reader, a lover of the great outdoors, all things travel, art and history, and am most content when surrounded by good friends, Halloween paraphernalia, and black and white movies. I can’t wait to meet all of you, and my door is always open for support, conversation, fun, or just a nice cup of tea. Allons-y!


    Dariush Jafari – Cluster South

    Hello everybody, my name is Dariush Jafari and I am starting my third year of university studying Economics and Business. I am your Community Leader and I would like to welcome you to UVic residence. This is my second year at UVic and I admit, so far so good. I live in Chilliwack and I am currently working at a construction company as a supervisor. I like playing soccer, ping-pong, volleyball, tennis, chess, and video games. Here in residence we all enjoy our time together and we help one another.


    Bradley Bachmeier – Cluster South

    Hi! I’m Bradley Bachmeier and am a fourth year Biochemistry and Microbiology major. This summer I get to go on a co-op work term to research viruses such as measles, rubella, human papillomavirus and human herpes viruses. I’m looking forward to meeting you in the coming year!


    Kristoffer (Kip) Jorgensen – Cluster South

    Hi, my name is Kip, and I am a third year student studying political science and environmental studies. I love to surf and hiker here in beautiful Victoria, and I am excited for the new school year.


    Felix Drechsler – Cluster South

    My favorite activities include karate, miming and staring at people until establishing the “weird eye-contact”, then proceeding to walk away… slowly. My idols include the adorable Hannah Montanna, and the Whale from “Free Willy!” My morning routine includes saying “you’re beautiful” to myself in front of the mirror 50 times, then kicking the door open shouting “This - is - Sparta!”… But in all seriousness, I was born in Munich, Germany, but grew up in Kelowna. This is my second year as a CL in Cluster and I’m really excited to meet you all!

    Hello! I’m Meghan and I’m in my fourth year at UVic, working on my degree in PoliSci Honours. When I’m not in Vic you can find me back home in Alberta, and even though I’ll always be a prairie girl at heart, the West Coast has quickly become a second home. I’m excited to be returning as an SCL for the 2013-14 year, and I know it’s going to be an awesome time!

    Tanner Lohr – Emily Carr (EC)

    Hey! My name is Tanner and I’m entering my third year at UVic. I am majoring in biochemistry with a goal of getting into med school to be a surgeon. My main hobbies are anything to do with music; playing guitar, piano, singing and listening to live music are what I love to do. My experience at UVic has been unforgettable, and I hope yours will be too.


    Cindy Yang – Emily Carr (EC)

    4th year. Poli-Sci Major. Business Minor. Hello! I’m Cindy from Richmond, BC & I’m super excited to be one of your CLs this year! I enjoy snowboarding, reckless dancing, and long walks to the fridge. I also have a keen appreciation for pandas, sparkles, and excellent puns. I’m very much looking forward to spending the year together! 


    Kayleigh Erikson – Emily Carr (EC)

    Welcome to the new and returning students for the 2013-14 academic year! I’m entering my second year of Political Science with the hope of becoming a corporate lawyer. I’m from Fleetwood, BC, which is a part of Surrey for those who don’t know where that is! A few of my hobbies are playing sports, participating and helping with political campaigns, and throwing events!     Alex McLeod – Margaret Newton (MN)

    Hello! My name is Alex and I am very excited to be your CL for this coming year. I am a 3rd year education student. Although I am Canadian I was born and raised in Bermuda. My hobbies are watching movies and TV shows as well as playing any sports.


    Cora-Lynn Bell – Margaret Newton (MN)

    I am a second year student studying Psychology here at UVic. I’m originally from southern Ontario, but I also lived in Nova Scotia for a couple of years. I am admittedly a bit of a dork at times (shameless Shine Club plug right here), and I’m excited to meet all you new residents this year. Welcome to UVic and I hope you have a great first year here!


    Jasmine Neville – Margaret Newton (MN)

    When not snacking on peanut butter and bananas, Jasmine enjoys long walks on the beach and dancing in the rain. Going into her second year as an English Major, she hopes not to blow a fuse again on the first day in res. After a summer of soaking up the sun aka working indoors full time. Jasmine is excited to welcome all the incoming students, and wishes them all the best year ever!


    Mark Sherwood – Sir Arthur Currie (SAC)

    I’m a Geography Major at UVic heading into my third year in school and on rez! I love sports, being outdoors and travelling the world. I spent last year in Asia & Africa and now I’m so excited to head back to UVic. But first I’ll be in Osoyoos (my hometown) for a bit before heading up north to treeplant. 2013/14 is going to be an awesome year and I can’t wait for it to start!

    Hi everyone! My name is Crystal and I’m a second year student with a Sociology Major. The beautiful City of Victoria is my hometown. This summer while I wasn’t working I spent my days at the beach with my friends. I can’t wait to meet you all and I’m excited for an amazing year!


    Nicholas Christoffersen – David Thompson (DT)

    Hey! My name is Nick, and I am a 2nd year Biology major with the intent of becoming a cardio-thoracic surgeon. I was born and raised in North Vancouver and I moved to Maple Bay when I was 19. I love fishing, hiking, and waterskiing, and am spending my summer working and hanging out with my amazing friends.


    Orissa Dumbrille-Meyrink – David Thompson (DT)

    Oh hey there! My name is Christine, and this is my second year being a CL. I’m in my 3rd year at UVic studying psychology with a minor in sociology. I love music, pink things, and anything coffee related. I’m super excited for another year with ResLife, bring it on!

    Hello! My name is Kaylee and I’m so excited to be returning as a CL for the 2013-14 school year. I’m a 3rd year Psychology student and originally from North Vancouver.     Zachary Greenwood – Wilson (WI)

    I am doing a Bachelor of Science in psychology. I come from Chilliwack, BC and spend my summers working at a water park. My favourite hobby is reading especially if it’s Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings!


    Solenne Morrison – Wilson (WI)

    I’m studying sciences, planning on majoring in biochemistry. I like sports and the outdoors. I’m from the sunshine coast, going into my second year. This summer I am going to be working at a summer camp.


    Sidney (Sid) Toohey – Haig Brown (HB)

    Hey everyone! I’m Sid, I am going for a BioPsych degree with the hopes of heading for med school in the future. This is my second year as a CL and third year living on campus and I know it is going to be a blast! I look forward to meeting everyone.


    Vio Nunez – Haig Brown (HB)

    Hey everyone! I’m Violeta and I’m returning for my second year as a CL. I’m entering my third year at UVic and studying Biology and Psychology. I enjoy dancing, baking and shopping and I’m so excited to meet all of the new residents this year!

    Welcome to UVic! My name’s Lukash Zalubniak, and I’m here to help you get classy.     Hi! My name is Kenzie. I’m from Kelowna and like most of you I’m new too! I’m 21 years old and I’m starting the Education Program this year at UVic. I like music, yoga and any activity the outdoors have to offer. I’m so excited for the 2013/14 year and can’t wait to meet all of you!

    Hello everyone. I’m Kyle and I’m also stoked to be returning to UVic Res for my final year as an SCL for Lansdowne. I study political science and business but my real passion is getting stoked on life!     Hey everyone! I’m Anthony (aka Speeds) hailing from Gibsons, BC. I’m in my 4th year at UVic studying psychology. I love Frisbee, video games and chocolate.     Allana Hiscock – Carroll (CA) Leadership & Civic Engagement Community

    Hey! I’m Allana and I’m a second-year Linguistics Major/Women’s Studies minor. I grew up in Halifax, Nova Scotia and moved to BC to attend UVic. I’m an avid crafter and love anything yarn, coffee, and feminism. I’m looking forward to the great year ahead!


    Benjamin Roberts – Hodges (HO)

    Hi there! My name is Ben and I’m entering my 2nd year at UVic and preparing to enter the BCom program next year. I’m looking forward this year for a great new experience in residence at UVic. I was born and raised in N. Vancouver, but I count Victoria as my new second home. I can’t wait to meet all you FANTASTIC people, and share some awesome times.


    Helen Burger – Hodges (HO)

    Yello there! - Well, I’m that South Afrinadian (ie. Afrikaans Canadian) who sings everywhere she goes, has dance deeply imbedded in her bones, is innately drawn to theatre & art, and who yet has a knack for science and many things scholastic. One of my ultimate goals is to become a naturopathic doctor while remaining an artist of sorts. This summer in North Van (among MANY other things) I’ll probably be listening to a ton of Ella Fitzgerald, reading Terry Pratchett novels and perhaps I’ll even go a –hunting for my favourite fruit – the prickly pear. I’m pretty stoked to meet all you beautiful people and am sure that we can make this a year to remember. Peace!


    Liam McDonald – Helmcken (HE)

    Howdy Folks! My name is Liam McDonald and I’m looking forward to spending the upcoming year with you! I’m a third year Commerce Major with an interest in economics. I’ve come to the west coast from the frozen wasteland we call Calgary, AB where I used to compete in the Olympic Sport of Luge. I enjoy a tasty dinner and a long walk on the beach. I can’t wait to meet you all. Welcome to UVic!


    Rachel Woldmo – Helmcken (HE)

    My name is Rachel Woldmo and the 2013-14 year will be my first year as a CL and my second year at UVic. I am studying general sciences and my major is still undecided. I’ve grown up in North Vancouver where I enjoyed playing soccer, field hockey and skiing as well as doing art. In Victoria I enjoy doing yoga and spending time with friends at the beach. I look forward to meeting and getting to know lots of new people in the upcoming year!


    Dennis Chern Ji Saw – Sanderson (SA)

    Dennis is a current BioPsyc major (hope to be!) who entered UVic in September 2012. Having lived in England for five years – away from Malaysia, his hometown, Dennis knows the International experience and the away-from-home fell reasonably well. He will be looking forward to helping student’s transitions into University and possibly, Canada. If anyone is keen on Classical music, Science, or soccer – Dennis is the guy to talk to!


    Danielle Villeneuve – Sanderson (SA)

    My name is Danielle Villeneuve and I am a fourth year student in the faculty of Humanities. I am a History Major and Psychology Minor. I am from Calgary, Alberta and love to hand out with friends, watch movies and read books in my spare time. I will be spending my summer here at UVic taking courses, working and enjoying the good weather. To those of you new to the University of Victoria, welcome!     Andres Aburto – Trutch (TR)

    Hello. My name is Andres Aburto and welcome to residence! I’m an international student from Nicaragua in my second year of engineering, entering electrical engineering. During this past summer, I enjoyed it playing music all the time; currently, I can play 6 different instruments, and still eager to learn more!     Hey everyone. I’m Michaela and I’m in my third year at UVic studying Biology and Psychology. I grew up in White Rock, BC but am currently living in Victoria! I plan on spending my summer working and visiting my cabin on Pender Island. I enjoy travelling and trying new things, yoga, hiking and spending time outdoors. I look forward to meeting everyone!

    Hey there! My name is Jeremy and I am a 4th year Psychology Major. I really enjoy swimming, group activities, working with cars, and playing poker.     Hello Everyone. My name is Mabel Sobipaa-a Bob-Manuel. I grew up in Rivers State, Southern part of Nigeria. I am very excited being a CL and having the opportunity to work with you all. It’s a new year, new adventures, ideas fun, good relationships and building a great community. Currently, I’m working on my 3rd year, doing a double major in psychology and Environmental Studies which I am passionate about. I write, sing, and dance. Am a lover of poems.
